What is Bracket Maker?

Bracket Maker draws a tournament bracket for any number of entrants: type the teams, players or things to compare, one per line, and the bracket is laid out with the byes and seeding done for you. Click a name to send it to the next round, or enter the scores, and the bracket fills in all the way to the champion.

It works for a real tournament (a game night, a sports day, an office pool) with single elimination, double elimination with a losers' bracket, or a round robin with a points table. And it works for fun: add pictures or emoji and press Play Matchups to vote "which is better" one pair at a time until a winner is left.

What You Can Do

  • Any number of entrants, 2 to 128: the top seeds get the byes when the number is not 4, 8, 16, 32…
  • Single elimination with an optional third-place match.
  • Double elimination: a losers' bracket, a grand final and an optional reset final.
  • Round robin: everyone plays everyone, with a table of points (3 a win, 1 a draw).
  • Seeding: top of the list is seed 1, or make a random draw.
  • Pictures and emoji for every entrant.
  • Scores: type them in and the higher one goes through.
  • Play Matchups: two at a time, big, with the keyboard, to vote a "which is better" bracket.
  • Looks: light, dark or court, in six colours.
  • Save and share: a high-resolution image, print, or a link with the results.

Frequently asked questions

How do byes work with an odd number of teams?

A bracket needs 2, 4, 8, 16 or 32 places, so with, say, 6 teams the bracket has 8 places and two of them are byes. The byes go to the top seeds, who start in the second round; everyone else plays in the first. The seeding keeps the top two seeds apart until the final.

What is the difference between single and double elimination?

In single elimination one loss and you are out. In double elimination a first loss sends you to the losers' bracket, where you can fight your way back to the grand final; a second loss puts you out. If the losers' bracket winner wins the grand final, both have lost once, so a reset final decides it (you can turn this off).

How do I make a bracket with pictures?

Press Add Pictures to turn pictures into entrants, or click an entrant's name to give it a picture. You can also start a line with an emoji, such as "🍕 Pizza". Pictures stay in your browser; a share link carries the names, emoji and results. To rank things in rows instead, try the Tier List Maker, and to split people into teams first, the Random Group Generator.
